Algarve cuisine. Meals eaten by farmers and fishermen are produced from ingredients straight from the land and the sea. Left-overs are used up in a variety of stews. They have ways of preparing food which have held good for many generations. More recently the long and close association with Portugal´s former colonies in distant parts of the world has also played a significant part in influencing the food of the Algarve. A nicely illustrated book full of good recipes by season. Full of anecdotes and folk tales about eating and drinking in the Algarve.

The Mermaid Chair is a beautiful and haunting story centered around Jessie Sullivan, a woman in quiet crisis whose return home to the island of a mermaid saint becomes a pilgrimage to self awakening. A vividly imagined love story between a woman and a monk, a woman and her husband, and ultimately a woman and her own soul. I can highly recommend this book as it exceeds her first novel The Secret life of Bees both in scope and depth.
A wide range of children's books always in stock

Practical Portuguese was written for English-speaking residents rather than holidaymakers, who want to be able to deal with the everday requirements of living in Portugal. The grammar element is presented informally and has been kept to an absolute minimum. Thers is also a CD which is based on this book, and this is also available.

Explanations are consise yet thorough and the examples use contempary language. Português Sem Fronteiras is a study book with about 90-120 hours work. It is divided into 20 units with revision excersises included. There are no answers in this book, so I think it would need to be used with teaching support. There are three levels in this range. This is the first.
